The Phulara Ridge Trek in the Sankri range of Uttarakhand offers something very rare in Indian trekking: an actual Ridge Walk.
A ridge is a geographical feature consisting of a continuous elevated mountain top or crest. Walking on a ridge means the mountain slopes sharply downwards on both sides, making you feel like you are walking on the edge of the world. Because there are no immediate high mountains towering right next to you closing the view, you get an uninterrupted 250-degree panorama of massive Himalayan snow peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Kalanag throughout the trek day.
Arrive at Dehradun by 6 AM and board the shared vehicles. A 200km drive takes you through scenic valleys to the bustling base camp village of Sankri.
Start the trek from Sankri itself. The trail passes through a beautiful pine and oak forest clearing, gradually ascending to the Sikolta campsite hidden beautifully amongst dark trees.
Ascend through the treeline and break out into the spectacular, vast green meadow of Bhoj Gadi. This is a very relaxed day giving plenty of time to acclimatize and enjoy the views.
The most important day. Walk along the awe-inspiring Phulara ridge for 4 to 5 hours enjoying completely clear 250-degree views of Himalayan giants before descending to the massive Pushtara meadows.
Descend through thick pine forests down to the roadhead at Taluka. From here, a short bumpy jeep ride brings you back to Sankri for celebration and rest.
Pack up and leave Sankri. Enjoy the long drive back down to the plains of Dehradun, completing your majestic Ridge adventure.
