Bali Pass Trek Overview
The Bali Pass trek is a thrilling crossover from the Har Ki Dun valley to the Yamunotri valley inside the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary National Park in Uttarakhand.
It is famous for being an old, rustic trek that connects the Supin river valley with the Yamuna river valley. While the first few days feel like a relaxing stroll through ancient Himalayan villages and the incredibly scenic Ruinsara lake, the pass crossing day turns it into a serious adventure. The climb to the pass at 16,200 ft is steep, and the descent is almost a vertical drop that tests your raw stamina and mountaineering grit.
Itinerary Breakdown
Dehradun to Sankri
Scenic 10-hour drive passing through Mussoorie and alongside the Yamuna and Tons rivers to reach the lively base camp village of Sankri.
Sankri to Seema
Short Jeep ride to Taluka followed by an easy gradient trek deep into the Govind National Park parallel to the Supin river up to the village of Seema.
Seema to Roerikhoti
The trail splits from Har Ki Dun. Trek towards the beautiful hidden valley of Ruinsara, crossing ancient wooden bridges and thick alpine forests.
To Ruinsara Tal
Ascend higher to reach the sacred alpine Ruinsara lake surrounded by rhododendron bushes and snowy peaks like Swargarohini.
To Bali Pass Base
Leaving the tree line behind, the trek turns steep and rocky towards the advanced base camp of Bali pass nestled right below the high ridges.
Cross Bali Pass
A grueling early morning push to cross the 16,200 ft pass. Enjoy breathtaking 360 views before attempting the famously steep descent to Damini.
Damini to Yamunotri
Trek down to the revered shrines of Yamunotri. Take a holy dip in the hot natural springs and descend further to Janki Chatti roadhead.
Return to Dehradun
Board vehicles for a long 9-hour coastal drive back to Dehradun, carrying memories of an epic Himalayan crossover.
