Hampta Pass is considered one of the most dramatic crossover treks in the Himalayas. The journey takes you from the lush green valleys of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh to the stark, barren landscapes of Spiti. This striking contrast is what makes the Hampta Pass trek truly unique.
Along the way, you'll walk through dense pine and maple forests, cross glacial valleys, and navigate over clear streams. The climax of the trek is crossing the Hampta Pass at 14,000 ft, followed by a visit to the breathtaking Chandra Taal lake - known as the 'Moon Lake'.
A short drive from Manali takes you to Jobra. From here, a beautiful trek through forests of maple and pine leads to the clearings of Chika alongside the Rani Nallah.
Trek through spectacular valleys covered in wildflowers. The landscape opens up as you approach the sandy campsite of Balu Ka Ghera, located right at the base of the pass.
The toughest and most rewarding day. Climb steeply to the Hampta Pass (14,000 ft). Experience the sudden shift in landscape before descending to the cold desert of Spiti at Siagoru.
A relatively easy downward trek along the Chandra river leads you to the roadhead at Chatru, famous for its barren aesthetic and massive mountains.
Drive to the stunning crescent-shaped Chandra Taal lake (subject to road conditions). Afterward, drive back across the Rohtang Pass to reach Manali by evening.
